Homemade Fruit Gummies
Do your kids love fruit snacks as much as mine do? Gummies fix everything at our house. Hard day at school? Fell on the pavement and skinned your knee? Your brother won’t share his cool new toy with you? Fruit gummies save the day.
Or maybe it’s you who loves the mixture of fruit flavor and chewiness. I have grown to love buying the healthy options of fruit gummies that are now offered at nearly every grocery store. It gets expensive though, and being that we live 30 minutes from the grocery store with reasonable prices, I like having this recipe on hand.
Fruit gummies are suprisingly easy to make and store. They can be made with fresh squeezed juice or store bought. If you decide to buy your fruit juice, make sure it’s just juice, with nothing added. Naked Juice is one of our favorite brands. You can also easily add in greens with the fruit by buying the juice as is. Or if doing it at home, you can for example, blend up some spinach with your fresh squeezed orange juice.
I have acquired a few different molds over the years for candy, ice, gummies, chocolates, even homemade crayons! Here is where I got my lego molds. This is a good assortment of shapes for the thinner plastic molds.
Today, I’m having a few kids for a sleep over and made these in less than 15 minutes (plus the 1 hour to set) as a fun treat for them.
One trick to get these to set even faster than usual is to use your freezer. Before you get too excited check to see if your freezer can hold 4-5 molds. I have a big freezer due to the fact that we get our meat locally and therefore buy it in huge quantities for the year. So I put my molds onto 2 cookie trays and freeze them for an hour (instead of the normal 4 hours in the fridge). They come out very cold, and need to thaw for 5 minutes, but after that they’re ready to be eaten!
I store what doesn’t get eaten in tupperware with parchment paper in between layers. I wish I could tell you how long these last, but they’ve never made it past 3 days in my house. That’s how good they are!
You’ll find I have 2 options here. 1 is how to make these gummies without any added sweetener, the other is with honey added.
Try them both and see what you prefer.
As always, enjoy!
